Joshua Kirby, Dr. Brook Taylor’s Method of Perspective Made Easy (Ipswich, 1760). Formerly owned by Isaac Milner.

The St John’s fellow, Brook Taylor (1685-1731), was another of Isaac Newton’s many Cambridge followers. Like Robert Smith he too published a complex treatise relating to Newtonian optics (entitled New Principles of Linear Perspective, (1719)). This was re-written and published in a more accessible and simplified form by the painter Joshua Kirby together with this comic frontispiece drawn by William Hogarth.
