Smith, The General History of Virginia, New England, [D.1.32]
Of particular fame is Smith’s account of his association with a Native American girl, Pocahontas. Following capture by the native Indian Chief Powhatan (Pocahontas’s father) Smith feared for his life. According to Smith, his release was secured by the intervention of, Pocahontas, who in the nick of time ‘hazarded the beating out of her own brains to save mine; and not only that, but so prevailed with her father, that I was safely conducted to Jamestown".
