'The first voyage of the right worshipfull and valiant knight Sir Iohn Hawkins, sometimes treasurer of her Maiesties nauie Roial, made to the West Indies 1562' : this account records how Hawkins bought numerous enslaved people and made great profit for himself and his companions out of their sale. This was the first slave voyage of Hawkins, which was followed by two more.
