William Whiston's Memoirs
Coffee houses operated as cheap subscription libraries, allowing customers to read their stock of pamphlets, books and newspapers for a small fee. This copy of Whiston’s memoirs provides an insight into what the wider public in Cambridge were reading in the eighteenth century, and shows that religious and scientific debate was not confined to scholarly institutions.
